About this image:

Created in 2004, this piece, entitled (Tabletop) Reliquary, features a removable Sterling silver brooch contained in a multifired lidded ceramic box. An ultrabright LED is incorporated into the base of the piece and provides enough ultraviolet light energy to make the reactive plastic in the brooch emit an eerie glow.

Early Medieval reliquaries often contained precious materials sourced from the natural world (Naturalia), or artifacts created to imitate such objects (Artefacta). In this case, Holly wood is carved and dyed to appear as if it were a piece of red coral.
